"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

milk mess

as i looked through old photos for parker's birthday post, i found this one of kamrie's milk mess.

how could i have forgotten? 3 gallons of milk & a dozen eggs onto the floor. dripping downstairs underneath the kitchen cabinets.

ugh. need i say more?

texas

hunter is with his buddy, harley, in texas for a week. harley & hunter met 4 summers ago at science camp. harley spends several weeks of his summer here with his aunt, uncle & grandparents.

harley & hunter are together pretty much 24/7 during that time. most of it is spent at aunt & uncle's house because there aren't other kids there to pester them.

they went to the omaha zoo on saturday & are going to get to go to 6 flags as well as do some other fun things.

they have a special friendship. they are enough alike that they're able to tell each other when they need a little time apart. but they get along so well that only happens about every 5 days. it's fun to watch them as they get older & interesting to think about them maybe being college roommates someday...

8:48 a.m.

as i sit happily sipping coffee this morning i count days on the calendar. only 22 days of no-alarm-setting for me. school is right around the corner & we're no where near ready. surely i should be getting my kids to bed early at night & getting them up and around in the mornings for "practice."

nah.

only 3/4 are even out of bed already. chloe is still snoozing away.

one of the good things about not having central air is the white noise all of our fans provide. i don't know when i've slept better. it's been cooling off fine at night & the wall unit in the living room keeps parts of the house very cool.

take it in stride

The verse I chose for my life journal entry today is this:

1 Peter 4:19
So then, those who suffer according to God's will should commit themselves to thier faithful Creator and continue to do good.

But read the Message translation...

So if you find life difficult because you're doing what God said, take it in stride. Trust him. He knows what he's doing, and he'll keep on doing it.

Don't you just love that?

When you know you are doing what God wants you to do, there will still be difficulties. But we just need to take it in stride. We can be like quicksand sucking people into the drama of our difficulties, or we can be like a lighthouse pointing people to Jesus even when things are hard.

Trust him. He knows what he's doing. God sees the HUGE picture we can't see or can't understand. Someday we'll see what he sees and see how our lives intertwined with other's and how he used all things for his glory.

He'll keep on doing it. If it is God's will, he isn't going to end our difficulties just because we complain to him or others about it. If he knows it is for his glory or it is for our benefit he won't end our troubles (gasp) even if we pray about it.

We have to take it in stride & look to him for peace. Knowing that God is in control also helps me realize that I don't have to have that responsibility. I don't even need to pretend I'm in control. Aaah. That is a relief!

green with envy

picture this groovy green shag in our master bedroom. oh yeah, i know you're green with envy.

Aah.

We had lots of great friends & family help roof our house in Minden Friday & Saturday. They were done completely in about 18 hours of work. They worked HARD! We appreciate their efforts and willingness to travel to help us.

We closed yesterday--we are officially owners of only 1 house. Praise the Lord.

Being at church here Sunday was awesome. In so many ways it's like we never left, or were maybe just an extended vacation. But in lots of other ways so much has changed. It's interesting, especially at church, to sit back & see how they do things & see who is doing what. We are watching & praying about how we can step into positions of service. We won't step "back" into our old positions, but get a chance to serve in new ways. That is exciting.

Many people have asked if we miss our house on Broadway or if we wish we hadn't left. But, we don't. We know that a house is just a house. We liked our "blueberry" house, but we don't wish we had it back. We are enjoying our new house & our new neighborhood. It's fun to get to know other people and a different area of town.

Do we wish we wouldn't have moved? No. We needed that time to grow. The Lord taught us a lot about our priorities and gave us a fresh perspective. We met some amazing people and had the opportunity to be closer to my parents for a short while. It was a good year for us, but we are very thankful to be able to come back "home."

catch-up

it's been so long since my last post & so much has happened i don't know how i'll catch up on the blog. there are a few great moments caught on film that i'll share as i have more time...like the boys' trapping a skunk. pictures soon. i promise.

we are moved into our home in imperial & enjoying seeing our old friends. it's been so fun having people drive by & stop to see us as they pass.

this is night #2 here, and so different than the move last summer. if you read the blog last year after our first night in our rental there were many tears shed & lots of fears about the sounds of the new house.

there was none of that last night as we spent our first night here. the kids have been here every day for over 2 weeks getting the house ready & evidently that helped smooth the transition. that & knowing that we aren't in a town where we don't know a soul. it really has been like coming "home" the last few weeks. it's been great to see everyone.

the house is coming along. i made lots of progress today on the box-factor. so there will be "before & after" pictures soon. paint & new curtains can do wonders.

we've run some new plumbing downstairs for the washer & dryer, replaced part of the sewer line (thank the Lord we didn't have a lot moved into the basement!!!), replaced the air conditioner & painted about 12 gallons of paint.

tonight's drama?? the alternator (we think) went out on the suburban--right in front of the house. i'm so glad God got us home rather than stranded out on the highway!
