"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

wrap-up

this has been a week filled with interesting things.

cooper & i ended up with pink-eye, then chloe.

parker & hunter had some sort of stomach virus.

kamrie & brad were the only totally healthy ones.

last weekend someone put the garden hose into the dryer vent & there was water running out of the bottom of the dryer. i can't get anyone to confess they did it. the dryer seems to be fine.

over the weekend brad also picked up kitchen cabinets & appliances we purchased from a family in lincoln listed on craigslist. they all look nice, i'm anxious to see them all out of the trailer & evaluate what we need to add to them, if anything. it seems to be a great deal so far!

tonight & saturday will be filled with soccer. the kids are really enjoying playing & i like to watch. hunter's game ended up tied 3-3 & chloe's game was just a riot watching 4-6 year olds play. they don't keep score. those kids are usually more concerned with what is for snack afterwards!

brad's gotten very busy at work, still not home tonight at almost 9 pm. it's good to have the weather cooperate, but hard to not have him home.

i'm reading "the shack" right now, so i can hold an intelligent conversation about whether or not it's an accurate view of God. so far it's just a good story.

happy friday tomorrow!!

sports

hunter & kamrie were talking about sports as they ate breakfast today.

h: did you sign kamrie up for tball?
m: yes.
h: you should sign chloe up too.
m: i did, her & kamrie will be on the same team.
h: baseball is my favorite sport. kamrie, what's your favorite sport? soccer?
k: barbies.
h: (laughing...) barbies aren't really a sport.
m: if barbie's were a sport you'd be a champion, kamrie.

need another book...

ok, i got 3-4 books from the library yesterday. the first since fasting from reading fiction before easter.

i started "the lucky one" by nicholas sparks friday around lunchtime & finished it last night around 11.

reading addict?

nah. it was just a really good book! i love all of nicholas sparks books.

this one really made me smile too, because just when you think you know how it's going to end, it didn't. i was pleasantly surprised.

now, onto the book i'd started before the fast, "the voice" by bill myers. a strange yet interesting tale about a computerized "voice of God" that could be used as warfare.

i'll let you know how it ends...

bump-its

have you all see the commercials for bumpits? you know, the things you put in your hair to give you big happy hair?

well, the other day parker had some pretty amazing bedhead. it was standing straight up in the back. hunter, the loving brother he is, says, "wow parker, you don't even need bumpits!"

p.s. i was on the big happy hair website & it informs people (in fine print) that bumpits are not edible. huh?

vacuums & dimes

yesterday, just as i was walking out the door a young guy comes running up to the door. i told him he was lucky because i'd run back in to grab something i'd forgotten. he wanted to give me a free can of air freshener if i listened to his presentation.

i guess he caught me at a weak moment. i thought i was being helpful to him because he said, "you don't have to buy anything, i get paid just to tell you about it."

so, feeling nice, i said, "you have 10 minutes."

he ran (literally RAN) across the street to his van & grabbed his boxes filled with kirby vacuum goods.

he really did try to hurry but all said & done it took him over 45 minutes. i was pretty impressed by the vacuum but kept telling him that i didn't have the money to purchase one. he of course countered with a fabulous payment plan with 0% down.

i firmly said, "no, i told you when you came in that i couldn't buy one today."

for part of the machine's demonstration he asked to use one of my dimes. he vacuumed it up & then showed me how the vacuum shoots it into the little "piggy bank" instead of sucking it clear into the bag. nice. he hands me back my dime & it's totally bent.

of course now i understand why he asked to use my dime rather than use his own. he also asked to use my cell phone to call his "boss" to come to get him. i also told him that i'd taken my kids to the sitter so i could go run errands so, adding it all up it probably cost me about $5.50 or more to listen to his sales pitch.

i left him standing on my front sidewalk beside his 2 big boxes out in 50 mph wind waiting for his ride.

i do wonder how many people actually buy them on the spot. i have a really hard time offering grace to someone who is trying to "bully" me into buying something i don't really need when i wasn't even shopping to begin with.

hopefully i learned my lesson about listening to nice guys with a sales pitch.

hunter's pops concert

hunter's 5th grade class got to wear 50-60's type clothing for their american pop concert. it was fun helping get their costumes the week before. hunter took the camera into the boys' room before the concert & got some great shots of his friends.

chloe bike riding

chloe decided to ride a bike big-girl-style a couple of weekends ago. she took right off after daddy took off the training wheels!

praying & palm sunday

we had an awesome time with 20 kids praying on saturday. the kids did great praying through several lists of requests & praises. we made our own list plus prayed for the adult requests & some from past lists. we had a couple of "time outs" during prayer to get our concentration back on track, but otherwise they did great. then we played a couple of games & had pizza & root beer floats.

then sunday at church one of our 3rd grade girls volunteered to pray to open 2nd service. these kids are great examples to others! they are stepping up & showing how they are growing in their faith.

denver children's hospital

we had a great experience at denver children's hospital. they took great care of cooper & of us. cooper is doing great after his minor surgery. he was up running around the next morning with malachi. he hasn't complained once.
