"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

cowboy ballerina

chloe's outfit for our library outing the other day...

unisex

anyone whose spent time around a dillan baby has probably seen each of our kids these articles of clothing. we considered them to be "unisex" items, though not every family would think so.
i pack these things up with bittersweet emotions since they are all too small for cooper, the final dillan baby. hard to believe isn't it?

10 Things

Parker's assignment earlier this week was to draw 10 things. Here are his 10 favorite cowboys & horses...

Bedtime Story

A small boy is sent to bed by his father.
Five minutes later.....'Da-ad....'
'What?'
'I'm thirsty. Can you bring a drink of water?'
'No, You had your chance. Lights out.'
Five minutes later: 'Da-aaaad.....'
'WHAT?'
'I'm THIRSTY. Can I have a drink of water??'
' I told you NO! If you ask again, I'll have to smack you!!'
Five minutes later......'Daaaa-aaaad.....'
'WHAT!'
'When you come in to smack me, can you bring a drink of water?'

No, this did not happen at our house, but sometimes it does feel this way...

Outdoor Expo

We had a great day at the outdoor expo with Grandpa & Grandma Bond. The kids got to hold all kinds of Nebraska water animals (fish, tadpoles, muddogs, crawfish, turtles), kayaked, shot archery & guns (even Cooper!). It was a lot of fun. Thanks for going with us Grandpa & Grandma!

soccer

out for a walk

this was a day with no school, we had 4 extra boys. we made it only about a block from our house, but it was a great day to be outside.

Boys in charge of supper

One night last week Parker fixed us supper--Ramen Noodles. He did a fine job of it. Then a few nights later Hunter was in charge. Grilled cheese & QQ (curly cue) fries. Ok, so I helped with the fries, but Hunter did the sandwiches.

one LONG curly cue!

it takes a whole loaf of bread...

Parker in charge of entertaining Cooper

Paint

I am painting the trim on our house. I got it all scraped yesterday, primed this morning & started painting this afternoon. I know the forecast is calling for storms tonight, so I wondered how long I should keep going. I got about 1/2 done with the first coat of paint & the wind was blowing my paint around. Guess that meant it was time to stop. Tomorrow then...

Bullies & Breakdowns

Monday night Parker & 2 friends got "jumped" by a 4th grader. All of them are ok but were sure scared that day. One of the mothers called the police & the boy ended up coming to each of our houses to apologize. Parker & his buddies seem to be handling it well. We also informed the school counselor about the situation.

After dealing with all of that, we discovered the refrigerator was not working. The fan is blowing but not cold air. Nice. We have a repair-man coming in the morning and have our little dorm fridge & a cooler with food in it. The kids think it's pretty handy to have the food right there at floor level.

Aaargh Matey!

What we heard Parker say as we were still lying in bed this morning:

"Cooper! Be quiet or I'll make you walk the plank!"

Huh?

nest

this morning's conversation between chloe & cooper as they look at the next in the tree outside the dining room window:

cooper: birds!
chloe: that's a bird in a nest.
cooper: he's stuck!
chloe: no cooper that's it's nest.
cooper: he's stuck!
chloe: no, that's the nest.
cooper: he's stuck!
chloe: it's a nest for the baby birds.

i'm not sure cooper is convinced yet.

p.s. i love it that i can be home & witness conversations like these firsthand.

coffee addicts

how we drink our coffee around here...

clowning around

a very well padded parker kept getting tackled by the others. i think it looks like cooper is even biting his arm in the one of the pictures.

red eyes

"see my red eyes?"

Cooper is fascinated with the red he can see on the inside of his eyelids. He shows people & says "see my red eyes?"

guess who

you can figure out who had "stolen" my camera by what shots were taken...several of cooper's toys, bed & his little piggies. yep, it must have been him.

birds

After we dropped Sunny off at the farm the other day we stopped for Chick Days at Orcheln's. Cooper was hilarious yelling at me to put the birds down! Then he wanted to hold them but he kept squeezing their necks. Chloe liked the yellow geese & kept talking about how we also got to see chicks last year when Parker was in Mrs. Cupp's class.

Power Outage

After our small group tonight the kids were outside playing soccer. They were kicking the soccer ball over the roof to the other side of the house. Guess what happens when a soccer ball hits the power lines to the house?

Power outage for a 2 block section for Minden...

We didn't realize that our house was really the problem until about an hour after it all occurred. Brad decided to go talk to the guys in the bucket truck in our alley to tell them that our kids had hit the line with the ball & saw some sparks. We thought maybe it had been a coincidence.

Well, it wasn't. Evidently our lines weren't insulated so when the ball hit the lines the wires hit each other & voila! Power outage. They came & wrapped our wires & had it fixed in about 5 minutes after we'd told them about the ball.

How much do you think this is going to cost us? Overtime for the NPPD & City workers? I know it was purely accidental, and really we are probably lucky to find out the problems with our wires this way instead of by a fire or something. Maybe this is God's way of protecting us from further damages.

Goodbye to Sunny

So long, farewell, it's time to say goodbye. Adieu, adieu to you & you & you...

Sunny went to live on a nice farm this week. His new owner emailed me the next day & said he was getting along very well. "He's already a part of the family" was her quote. They'd gone for a long pickup ride to get acquainted & for a 2 mile walk along the river the first day.

The kids are ready to visit, but we're letting them get used to each other first. He was a great dog but it's one of those things that you know it's best to let him go.

One of my YC friends forbids me to get another pet because I just give them away. But I know she's secretly (or not secretly) jealous of my ability to give our pets away. We love them for awhile & then we pass them on for others to love. :) Really though, one of the main reasons we got Sunny when we did was to help Chloe over her absolute fear of dogs. And, she is over that. Sunny was a great dog for her to learn with. And seriously, I would have gladly put up with his flaws if he would've just been content at our house & not continued to run off. I really did like that dog.

Things we'll miss about Sunny: the way he'd "talk" back to you if you talked to him, the way he lays down to eat his food, taking him for walks, how happy he always was to see us, how cute he looked when he'd sleep with his head on a pillow, taking him on rabbit hunts, that he loves popsicles, his soft furry ears, how he'd put his paw on your arm or nudge you with his nose when he wanted you to pet him, making up "Sunny" rhymes like "Sunny, bunny you're so funny" (this was a great pastime for the kids & I).

Things we won't miss about Sunny: the hair, poop in the yard, the hair, holes in the yard, finding him on the couch (with his head on a pillow), finding him on my bed (with his head on a pillow), the hair, barfing on the floor after he'd eat too fast, him running off, the police bringing him home & did I mention the hair?

Ode to Sunny
Sunny, bunny, you're so funny,
your warm fur, the color of honey.
Now that you live on a farm
you can runny, runny, runny!

I was tagged.

Ok, Brooke I've put this off too long. You tagged me probably a month ago & I've been thinking about 10 things I could tell people about myself they may not already know. Although I'm still not completely what to type, I'm going to give it a shot.

1. Because my mom had placenta previa, I was born 6 weeks early, weighed 4 pounds 11 ounces & was the first baby at the Kearney hospital to be on the baby bird respirator. There was a huge concern about the amount of oxygen to give babies then, because too much can cause blindness & too little, well too little is just too little. I understand now, being a mother, what huge implications this all must have caused in my little family.

2. I had (probably still do) very sensitive feelings as a child. You could look at me wrong & I would cry or go hide behind my parents. I remember one summer at camp (my parents would help at Nebraska Youth Camp every summer) they had "Kangaroo Court" which was pure nonsense, but they found me guilty of rollerskating in the mess hall & I ended up in tears over it even though it was just a joke.

3. I never thought I'd have 5 kids. I always thought I'd probably have about 3 since that is how many I'd had in my family growing up.

4. I graduated from a high school class of 22, and as far as I know all of my classmates are still living, 15 years later. I'd know for sure if our class would ever have a reunion...:)

5. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from York College with a Bachelor's of Business Administration and a minor in Education. Brad & I were the part of the first graduation class after YC became a 4-year accredited institution.

6. I remember "cutting hair" (shavings from my dad doing body work on cars) growing up. Also playing in the huge windshield boxes they'd have there. I remember my mom making popsicles with those tupperware popsicle makers, yogurt with her yogurt maker and using that seal-a-meal contraption.

7. In 5th grade a friend of mine (Sarah) & I missed most of PE because we thought it was recess time. We finally realized that none of our classmates were on the playground & remembered we were supposed to be in PE then. When we got in there they were using scooters, my absolute favorite PE activity, and we'd missed nearly all of it! Coming in a close 2nd was when we got to climb the rope.

8. I never had to go to the principal's office growing up, except my senior year when I was his student aide. I got to do fun things like drive his jeep to go stock the concession stand for football games. I guess Mr. Hansen really did put the "Pal" in principal.

9. I got pulled over for speeding by my dad, a county deputy, while in high school. He didn't think it was very funny. I was actually kind of scared because this "person" had been following me all the way from Amherst to Odessa & would speed up when I'd speed up & slow down when I'd slow down. I was speeding to get away from him! :) He pulled me over, walked up to the car with his big light & said, "65 Miss Bond?" Hmmm. Thanks for not giving me a ticket Dad.

10. I like to vacuum. It's kind of a weird thing & causes mixed emotions inside like, "WOW! This is amazing how much dirt it is picking up." or "We are such filthy people. How does it get this dirty in here?" I have a vacuum with a clear bagless container so you can see all the nastiness swirling around inside, so that in itself is somewhat fun... I wear my MP3 player & jam while I make tracks with the vacuum in the carpet. I love to see where I've been with the tracks. Our old carpet didn't show those lines from vacuuming & I'm glad it does in this house... I'm pretty easily entertained, really.

golf club & glass

our 7 year old now knows first hand what a golf club will do to glass...

just how do you fix one of these??? anyone with any glassblock repair know how is welcome to come stay with us, free lodging & meals. just a thought.

cat

the kids were cracking me up holding this cat. look at how floppy & relaxed it is even as cooper is dragging it around. it's a really nice little cat, let's the kids cart it all over without any struggle. it belongs (sort of) to a house down the street, but it just showed up at their house too. it is a bit of a wanderer--the best kind of cat there is!

baby alive

did you know that baby alive can shoot "pee" clear down our dining room table when she's not wearing a diaper?

lots of giggles from this crew (jamey & jasper-two boys we watch & chloe)!

shower project

our house needs lots of repairs/fixing up. it'll be great once it's all done, and even now we enjoy the space. but what a mess while you're living in a project...

phase 1 demolition of old shower (revealed the cause of the leak--rotten wood behind all those disgusting looking tiles, leaking straight into the basement--had to have started YEARS ago)

diaperyuck

just a word of advice. don't try to wash a diaper with a load of laundry. it makes a complete mess. you know that bubbly/squishy/yuck stuff that is inside of them? it doesn't like to wash out completely, even after 2 washes. after drying the stuff with white yuck all over it the lint trap was completely stuffed full of white fluff. now where did that all come from???

do i know how on earth that diaper even got into the washer? no. it had to be mixed in with all the other clothes by mistake.
